The Pound is surrounded by cliffs
which are set in a foundation of blue shale and rise through red stone to white peaks. St.
Mary's Peak is 1190 metres and provides wonderful views of the surrounding country.
There is an abundance of wild life, especially our colourful native birds. Scroll down
for more information.
Not too far from the Pound in the northern end of the Ranges are Warren Gorge, Buckaringa Gorge,
Yourambulla Cave, and Arkaba, where the visitor can see fantastic Aboriginal Drawings. At Chambers
George there are also Aboriginal carvings. Also in this region is Arkaroola Village where once
again there is an abundance of wild life. The country of Arkaroola - once a sea bed - has many
fossils which are imbedded in the rock.
