Australia produces many different kinds of fruit. From apples in Tasmania to bananas, mango,
pineapples and pawpaws in tropical Queensland. In the cooler southern states we have a great
variety of the stone fruits, including peaches, plums, apricots and beautiful cherries. We
must not forget the mouth-watering strawberries, grapes, oranges, mandarins, pears etc.
Compared with some other countries fruit is reasonably priced here even in bad seasons. There
is absolutely no need to import fruit from other countries. For example navel oranges from
California, our own are better. American cherries are now appearing in the stores here our own
are much better, especially the very dark red variety.
We must support our own struggling farmers. Don't buy imported fruit or vegetables - it is
un-Australian.
